Onstage and Off

Workers bolt steel frames together on a lawn and hang rows of lights against the sky; at dusk on campus, a band plugs in and the guitarist throws an arm toward the crowd. These photos follow events from both sides of the stage: a pianist, a harmonica ensemble, costumed players embracing, a guest waving at an expo, and an audience taking notes or raising phones. Every event is held up by all of them.
